Thailand is totally worht a visit. Don’t get distracted my negative connotations of the country, it is absolutely stunning. There may be bad elements, but there are in all countries. Thailand gives you a chance to have an amazing tropical getaway on the cheap. Go from a wild jungle adventure to hopping nightlife and a street food scene that is yet to be rivalled. Thailand is an explosion of sights, smells and sounds.

Is Bangkok a Good Place to Visit?

The capital of the country is Bangkok and here is where all of Thailand meets. The madness can be overwhelming, the colors too vibrant and the honking of the drivers a little dizzying, however after a few minutes you realize you are on vacation in a place so far outside of your home country and a smile will come to your face – because here is where the adventure begins. Bangkok is major metropolitan and with that comes all of what big city life has to offer, however the big city still has some beautiful and living monuments to the past.

One of the best ways to learn a little about Thailand is by visiting the Grand Palace and the temples that sit on the grounds. The famous Emerald Buddha is found in Wat Phra Kaeo while the equally famous reclining Buddha is found nearby at the Wat Po Temple. After immersing yourself in the past you may want to spend an evening sharing your stories with fellow travelers, you can do this over on Khao San Road where all the travelers in the know hang out. The street is hopping in the evening with street vendors churning out delicious fare and the sounds of pounding beats from the many bars and clubs that line the street.

The top tourist destination in the country is Phuket. Although it has gained an off-color reputation due to the amount of sex tourists that visit, the city has a lot to offer outside of the red light districts. Although it is quite a juxtaposition you will also find some of the most beautiful temples and monasteries in the city as well as some of the most gorgeous beaches.

Just a few hours outside of Phuket are the Similan Islands, they are a perfect spot to visit for some tranquility as well as for its famed diving. Chiang Mai is the most popular city to visit in Northern Thailand and for good reason. It is home to beautiful national parks like Doi Pui Suther National Park among others. Additionally the Buddhist temples found across the city hold ancient relics dating back thousands of years. The Wat Phra Singh temple is one of the most mysterious and largest of the temples and contains murals that provide a glimpse into Thailand’s past.

The weather in Thailand is hot year round, however the country does have a wet and dry season. The summers are hot and wet with rains lasting into the fall, however early fall is also when you can score yourself some good deals on flights so it may be something to think about before booking. The country is gorgeous and you can get yourself a lovely Instagram-worthy getaway for a fraction of the price of places like the Bahamas or Maldives. You also get a chance to immerse yourself in ancient history while staying modern. Yes, it’s totally worth a visit.
